Social N The City to Host Events for Detroit Creatives This Week

Detroit native Amber M. Lewis, founder and chief creative officer of media agency Social N The City, is teaming up with local creatives and businesses to present events this week for the city’s artists and entrepreneurs.

On Nov. 18, Social N The City will host Soul Night from 7-11 p.m. at Willis Show Bar in Detroit. Presented in partnership with MeanRed Productions, the night will include live performances by local artists Supercoolwicked and Izzy Faye with sounds by Deon Jamar. The evening is put together in partnership with MeanRed Productions, and it’s sponsored by Aberfeldy Distillery.

“As an artist, most of the work I do is to provide more spaces for other artists and creatives to create and showcase their talent,” Lewis says in a press release. The 29-year-old digital media director and creative consultant — who now resides in New Orleans, Louisiana, and splits her time between there and Detroit — is no stranger to providing space for Motor City creatives to connect and grow their platforms. She’s done so as a DJ and party curator under the pseudonym “The Playlist Princess,” as the creator of the networking community Black Women Do Social, and through previous roles as the City of Detroit’s social media director and a Detroit representative for social networking app Bumble.

The fun continues Nov. 19 with Community Coaching + Coworking Day, a free event hosted at WeWork’s Midtown Detroit coworking space at 6001 Cass Ave. From 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., attendees can work in the space and have a professional headshot taken by photographers Cyrus Tetteh and Dante Rionda of Friends The Gallery. The day wraps up with a happy hour sponsored by WeWork from 5-6 p.m. While the 30-minute advising sessions with Lewis listed on the event page are all booked, she says she plans to offer additional advising sessions separately at a later date.

“As an entrepreneur, I know how hard it can be to bring ideas to life and I know that having space to create and someone to talk to about your business can make a difference,” she says in a press release. “I’m hoping to make it an ongoing series.”
