Learn about animals, find a new furry friend, and explore your connection to nature at the upcoming Wild Weekend. Taking place at the Michigan Science Center, the two-day event is free to the public.

On Nov. 13, the Detroit Zoological Society will host pop-up exhibits and a Science Stage Show on nature conservancy, wildlife preservation, and the Detroit Zoo’s work in the local community. Then from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Nov. 14, nonprofit animal shelter Michigan Humane will host a pet adoption day at the center. All weekend long, guests can also enjoy screenings of Backyard Wilderness, a film about the nature that can be found in your own backyard, in MiSci’s 4D theater. The event is supported by consulting agency Strategic Staffing Solutions.

β€œWe appreciate the support of Strategic Staffing Solutions and our partners, Michigan Humane and The Detroit Zoological Society, for helping us host a free weekend that brings kids and families closer to animals and provides a chance for local pets to find their forever homes,” says Dr. Christian Greer, president and CEO of the Michigan Science Center, in a press release. β€œDuring our free Wild Weekend, we will highlight our connections to nature and the animals with whom we share this amazing planet.”

MiSci, located at 5020 John R St. in Detroit, is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. While there is no cost for museum admission during Wild Weekend, guests must make reservations online. Masks are also required inside the center.
