Horror and film convention is to be held July 28-30 in Novi this year. Celebrating “15 Years of Terror”, the convention will have a film festival featuring up-and-coming filmmakers, vendors, artists, parties, special guests, and more.
Over 20 celebrities from horror and popular culture films and television will be in panels, round tables, photo-ops, and more. Some of the special guests expected to appear at this year’s con include The Evil Dead actor Bruce Campbell; Friday the 13th director, creator, and producer Jason Vorhees; Academy-Award winning Beetlejuice makeup artist Ve Neill; SMILE actor Kevin Keppy; and crew members from Twin Peaks and Queen of Screams.
One of Motor City Nightmares’ biggest attractions is the annual film festival where all kinds of filmmakers submit their films for viewing and watch them with fans. The films are judged in categories like best actor, best screenplay, best costume design, best sci-fi feature, best horror feature, best thriller feature, and best fantasy feature. Some of last year’s featured films include best feature and cinematography winner Moon Garden, best short film winner Escalation, horror feature winner Deep Shock, and best acting ensemble winner The Last Temptation of Aelred by Michigan-based filmmaker, Jack Pratt.
The con will also have over 30 different vendors selling merchandise such as posters, jewelry, clothing, photos, collectibles, and more. Other activities guests can look forward to include an after party on Saturday night featuring a concert by Voyager, as well as games and group events in between film showcases.
Held at the Sheraton Detroit Novi hotel at , Motor City Nightmares has several different tiers of tickets for purchase online. The standard weekend pass is $80.
Tommy Brunswick, a Michigan native and horror film director and producer known for films like The Remake and They Must Eat, is the owner and organizer of Motor City Nightmares. Brunswick founded the event in 2008.
