Detroit Jazz Festival

The Ape Star

This animated, family-friendly feature from Swedish director and animator Linda Hambäck tells the story of Jonna, a young girl who is adopted by a friendly ape. Wu-Tang Clan and Nas

Hip-hop fans will have a chance to catch performances by two legendary acts in one night when influential collective Wu-Tang Clan and Grammy Award-winning rapper Nas unite for the NY State of Mind tour. Distant (Uzak)

This 2002 film by Turkish director and producer Nuri Bilge Ceylan will show for two days at the Detroit Institute of Arts’ Detroit Film Theatre. It has won more than 30 awards since its debut, including Grand Prix and Best Actor prizes at the 2003 Cannes Film Festival. A melancholic story about family and loneliness, the plot follows a pair of cousins who attempt to bond despite finding themselves at very different places in life. $7.50+. Sept. 3 & 4. Hamtramck Labor Day Festival

This weekend, Hamtramck will host its 42nd annual Labor Day Festival, featuring carnival rides, food trucks, artist and vendor booths, the beloved Hamtramck Yacht Club Canoe Races, and two stages of live entertainment. The eclectic lineup boasts some of metro Detroit’s favorite music acts, as well as Hamtramck’s very own Rod Stewart impersonator,��Danny D.
