Gaudino’s: Bistecca Monte Carlo is a grilled flat iron steak with roasted root vegetables.

Gaudino’s // The trend toward combining a food market with a restaurant has a good example at this handsome Italian spot. In addition to its menu, it offers imported pastas, seasonings, and sauces, plus a butcher counter with housemade sausages and another with a wine assortment. And in the middle, a handsome marble-topped bar centered with a β€œtree” made of wood from wine barrels. A focal point is the open kitchen, where executive chef Joe Beato heads the staff. The menu doesn’t deviate from an Italian spin and the wine list follows suit. It offers pastas and pizza, salads, and entrees, including a lovely chicken Milanese. 27919 Harper Ave., St. Clair Shores; 586- 879-6764; L & D Tues.-Sun. $14

Prime + Proper // Downtown Detroit dining gets a major shot of glamour with this over-the-top steak and seafood emporium that dominates the corner of Griswold and State streets. Although red meat from prime dry-aged Tomahawk ribeye to Wagyu strip is the focus β€” and yes, there’s a burger made with a dry-aged butcher’s blend β€” oysters, king crab, and caviar are not far behind in an elegant white and gold setting. The niceties of service are maintained by an impeccably dressed staff, hand-picked by proprietor Jeremy Sasson. 1145 Griswold St., Detroit; 313-636-3100. D nightly. $50
