United Shore Professional Baseball League’s Ninth Season Starts Today

United Shore Professional Baseball League (USPBL) is starting its ninth season on May 17 at Jimmy John’s Field in Utica. The league is made up of four teams —the Birmingham Bloomfield Beavers, Eastside Diamond Hoppers, Utica Unicorns, and Westside Woolly Mammoths — that play against each other every weekend throughout the summer, totaling about 70 games.

鶹 Detroit magazine’s contributors received five awards on May 15 at the 2023 Excellence in Journalism Awards, which is held annually by the Society of Professional Journalists — Detroit Chapter and recognizes entries from the prior year that exemplify outstanding achievement in print, digital, radio, and television journalism. The College for Creative Studies Presented Over 100 Looks at its Runway Show

The College for Creative Studies transformed the Cadieux Stage in Detroit into a fashion runway where over 130 designs created by 23 fashion students, guest designers from other departments, and an international student were presented on May 4, 2024. Over 200 guests attended CCS’ fourth iteration of The Show, including talent acquisitors from Bottega Veneta, Louis Vuitton, and Tapestry.

Independent Filmmaker Roger Corman Dies at 98

American film director Roger Corman died surrounded by family in his Santa Monica home on Thursday, May 9, according to a statement posted on his official Instagram. A cause of death was not mentioned. He was 98 years old. Corman was born in Detroit on April 5, 1926, and is known for making hundreds of low-budget B-list movies including Piranha and The Little Shop of Horrors.
