A renowned chef who made his name in over the past two
decades now joins Lakeview Hills Country Club and Resort in Lexington, a village located about 20 miles north of Port Huron along Lake Huron’s shoreline. Alex Young was hired as executive chef — he’ll oversee the resort’s three restaurant concepts — the San Marino Lounge, the Tin Cup Bar, and the recently-added Emilio’s Prime Steakhouse, which opened last summer.

In fact, he’s already given the San Marino Lounge menu a makeover —
introducing authentic Italian dishes such as like Chicken Boscaiola, Nidi di
Rondine, and Insalata di Farro. In addition to a new chef, the resort will be
home to a brand-new wedding chapel and outdoor pavilion with over 500
seats, set to be completed this June. Other additions in the works include
bike rentals, a full-service spa, and pickleball courts.

Young was brought in by Lakeview Hills general manager Fadi Achour, who
has won multiple Awards of Excellence from Wine Spectator. It’s not the first
time the two have worked together — they met at a job in the mid-90s and
have remained in touch ever since.

“[It] was a no brainer to bring him on to assist me in making Lakeview a
culinary destination for the region,” said Achour in the announcement’s press release.

Young was chef and managing partner at Zingerman’s Roadhouse in Ann
Arbor from its opening in 2003. While there, he earned a James Beard Award
for Best Chef:Great Lakes in 2011 before departing to open The Standard
Bistro and Larder in 2017. Most recently, he headed the kitchen at Ann
Arbor’s Vinology.

Winning the James Beard Award was of course a very special moment in my
career and is something every chef dreams about, but [I’m] still in the
kitchen every day doing what I enjoy and love, and that is to cook and try to
create the perfect balance of flavor, health and inspiring food,” said Young in
the press release.

Along with the restaurants and other amenities, Lakeview Hills Country Club
features a 36-hole golf course, a hotel, and a ballroom. The historic club was
purchased in 1976 by the late Emilio Fabbri and is now owned by his son,
president and CEO Tom Fabbri, along with siblings Sue Willis, and Rick and Dennis Fabbri. Emilio founded Aaro Window Cleaning and was a longtime board member at Huntington Banks of Michigan.
