Are you a local fashion designer in Detroit who prioritizes sustainability in their practice? You may be eligible for the $10,000 .
, a boutique located in Detroitβs West Village Neighborhood, was founded by husband-and-wife duo Gretchen R. Valade and Kevin Steen in 2020. There, they sell apparel, accessories, and home goods created by brands β mainly owned by women β that take into consideration their impact on the environment. Their hope is that by normalizing a sustainable mindset, it will become the industry standard.
By offering this grant to one lucky designer, the boutique hopes to further strengthen its ties with the local community by providing the chosen designer one-on-one mentorship and professional resources to assist them on their stylish, yet environmentally conscious, journey.
βAs Eugenie works to elevate local designers through monthly pop-ups, workshops, collaborations, visibility, and more, this designer grant is a natural next step that aligns with Eugenieβs values,β Jaclyn Lieder, brand and creative at Eugenie, said in a press release.
Applicants can either submit a written summary or video describing their brand, or capsule collection and a project proposal with a sustainability initiative. The applications will then be reviewed by a selection of panelists made up of local industry leaders, designers, and educators, such as Roslyn Karamoko, founder and CEO of , and Deb Ferraro, vice president of global product development at Carhartt.
