Bloomed is Harris’s study of plants, with which onlookers may subtly interact. Playing on the nature of classical still life, small movements enliven the flowers, causing them to flourish as observers pass by. Meticulously recreated through computer animations, each flower encapsulates the romanticised surrealness synonymous with Harris’s works.
The symbol for faith, loyalty and adoration, sunflowers are immediately recognised for their grand, golden flowers. The sunflower is a large inflorescence, meaning that the flower head is actually comprised of tiny flowers called florets. The central florets look like the centre of a normal flower, whilst the outer florets take the appearance of yellow petals. In their bud phase, sunflowers will literally seek out and face the sun. This trait, called heliotropism, is only exhibited in juvenile flowers however, as once maturity is reached, they cease tracking the sun and only face east.
