The Detroit Lions are making the city proud this year and Wayne State University (WSU) is celebrating all theyβve achieved this season by lighting up historic Old Main in the teamβs iconic Honolulu Blue.
To pull off the display, two university electricians removed the 30-foot-long florescent lights along the Cass Avenue budlingβs upper most windows, slid blue shades over them, and reinstalled them. They also replaced the white flood lamps that face the clock tower with blue ones.
The lights will remain in place all week ahead of the NCF Championship game this Sunday when the Lions take on the San Francisco 49ers for the first time since 2021.
βWayne State and the city of Detroit are inextricably linked, and we are so excited to be on this ride with the Lions,β WSU President Kimberly Andrews Espy, Ph.D. said in . βThe roar and energy emanating from Ford Field the last two weeks has spread throughout our campus community. We are pleased to show our Lions pride by lighting up our signature building in Honolulu Blue.β
Old Main is located at on Wayne State Universityβs campus in Detroit. This Sundayβs game kicks off at 6:30 p.m.
