If you thought those leftover cans of paint lining the walls of the basement or garage donβt amount to a bucket of spit, think again. The Southeastern Oakland County Resource Recover Authority (SOCRRA) has teamed with Battle Creek-based ePaint Recycling to help divert latex paint from the waste stream.
Residents of SOCRRAβs 12 member communities and Bloomfield Hills can schedule a drop-off at the organizationβs recycling center in Troy.
βThey take our paint and they mix it together,β says SOCRRA Education Director Karen Bever. βYou get a color, which they sell to Habitat for Humanity.β
The result is a product aptly named Everybodyβs Paint.
βI like the title, too,β Bever says. βBecause it is everybodyβs paint.β
Note: Only wet latex paint can be recycled. Dried paint should be removed from the can, which can be recycled, and placed in the trash.
