The Traverse City Comedy Fest Returns for Second Year

The second annual is set to run Wednesday, Jan. 31 through Saturday, Feb. 3, with over 40 events scheduled among seven venues in the Downtown Traverse City area.

Dozens of performers will take the stage during this year’s festival, including national headliners Zainab Johnson, Rory Scovel, Joe List, Norm Stulz, and Dwayne Kennedy. While several shows are free, other tickets cost between $15 and $30. Tickets for headliners’ shows cost between $35 and $55.

The Comedy Fest also offers a variety of comedy events throughout the weekend, including free stand-up and improv workshops on Friday and Saturday evenings, along with open mic shows scattered throughout the weekend as an opportunity for aspiring comedians to give their best.

On Thursday, educators will have the evening to share their comedic talents at β€œTeacher’s Lounge,” at the . Tickets are $20.

To break the bounds of traditional comedy shows, β€œBig Fun Mystery,” an interactive and entirely improvised murder mystery show, will be held on Saturday, Feb. 3 at 5:30 p.m. Audience members will help five comedians uncover the identity of the perpetrator as they relive the events of the crime.

On Saturday, tickets are $20 to β€œEyes Up Here,” an all-female show with five comedians from Metro Detroit. The R-rated show will be at the at 3:30 p.m.

Comedy Karaoke will close the festival, beginning at 10 p.m. on Saturday until 1 a.m. on Sunday.

Last year, the Traverse City Comedy Fest held 26 shows, most of which were sold out, at three locations. This year, the city is expected to be bustling due to the increase in shows and venues.

Resorts and hotels near downtown Traverse City are offering special lodging discounts for ticket holders who will be traveling, as well. Tickets are now on sale for all shows and events.
